Irene was born Dec. 31, 1950 in Orange City, Iowa the oldest of eight children to Gerrit John and Genevieve (Den Herder) Leusink. She was raised on a farm near Sioux Center, graduated from Sioux Center High School and went on to get her nursing degree at St. Lukes Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She eventually moved to Minneapolis where she met and married her life long partner Ron Ouellet. She continued to work as an RN for many years until her condition wouldnt allow it. She enjoyed time spent with friends and family. Irene faced each day with determination, courage, and a can do attitude. She did not waste time feeling sorry for herself, but put her heart and soul into everyday challenges. She fought her MS with a vengeance and would not let the disease take away from her the quality of her life.
Left to mourn her passing are her two sons, Jeff and Ryan, both at home; her husband, Ron, her mother, Genevieve Leusink, four brothers and their spouses: Claire and Ruth of Ripon, CA, Arlin and Joyce of Sioux Center, IA, Dennis and Cheri of Rock Valley, IA, Marvin and Laura of Modesto, CA; three sisters and their spouses: Helen and Dave Dorenkamp of Milford, IA, Thelma and Dean Madagan of Spirit Lake, IA, and Joyce and Kevin Zubrod of Sutherland, IA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerrit John Leusink.
