Ruth Horstman, 89 of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, July3, 2018 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Rev. Dan Kruse, officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, IA.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 5th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
The Horstman family prefer memorials be directed to Hope Haven Auxiliary.
Ruth (Westra) Horstman was born May 13, 1929 at Hull, IA the daughter of Peter P. and Della (Post) Westra. Ruth grew up at Hull, IA where she attended grade schools in Hull and Sheldon, IA. Ruth was united in marriage to Gerrit Horstman on May 28, 1948 at her parent's home in Hull, IA. They made their home on a farm north of Sioux Center. They moved to Sioux Center in November of 1992. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and being involved in her church. For many years she was a Sunday school teacher at First Reformed Church in Hull. She was a member of New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She also was involved in the Morning Glory Circle and the Hope Haven Women’s Auxiliary. Ruth made many crocheted items and read often. She enjoyed checking out books from her church library. Ruth died this past Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018 at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA at the age of eighty-nine.
She is survived by her husband, Gerrit Horstman of Sioux Center, IA; their children, Pete (Caron) Horstman of Doon, IA; Russ Horstman of Tea, SD; Jolene (Ken) Vander Ziel of Rock Valley, IA; Linda (Dave) Van Eck of Lincoln, NE and Lorna (Bruce) Midthun of Sioux Center, IA; along with 18 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Westra of Homestead, FL and one sister, Pearl Clark of Bakersfield, CA.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Della Westra; son, Calvin Horstman; two grandsons, Brock Midthun and Michael Horstman; 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.
