Eileen Van Voorst was born January 26, 1926 to John and Clara (Bakker) Van’t Hul. She attended Doon Country School until she and her family moved to Rock Valley where she completed her education. On September 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to John G. “Hans” Van Voorst at her parent’s home in Rock Valley. After their marriage the young couple made their home in Sioux Center. Hans and his brother Rich owned and operated Van’s Electronics in Sioux Center and Eileen did books for the business for many years. She was also a housekeeper at Dordt College for over 30 years. But her largest and most important role was raising her family. Her 6 children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and now great-great grandchildren will all share many wonderful memories of her.
After moving to Sioux Center, she and Hans became members of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church where they loved to worship and be involved. Eileen was a member of the Sunshine Circle for many years. Among many things, Eileen will be remembered as a wonderful cook. Her specialties included whipped potatoes, roast beef and gravy and her delicious chicken soup that she so often shared with family and friends if they were not feeling well.
Eileen’s caring spirit was manifested in the many personal notes and greeting cards that she sent to many people throughout her lifetime.
Eileen is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Arvin Prinsen, Joyce and Arlin Leusink and Jana and Dave Haglund all of Sioux Center; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sherry Van Voorst of Overland Park KS, Randy and Marie Van Voorst of Snohomish, WA and Phil and Sherrie Van Voorst of Mount Vernon, WA; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Clarence and wife Marlene Van’t Hul of Canton, SD, Jerry and wife Linda Van’t Hul of Sheldon, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans; sisters, Fannie, Lucy and Bernice; and brother, Bernard; and great-granddaughter, Lily.
