Christen John Dragstra was born December 16, 1979 in Sioux Center, to Kenneth and Connie (Sandbulte) Dragstra. He was raised on the family farm west of Sioux Center and attended the Sioux Center Christian School. Chris graduated from Western Christian High School with the Class of 1998. While there he played basketball, sang in the choir, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He continued his education at Dordt College, earning a degree in Youth Ministry in 2002.

Chris was a typical farm kid growing up, helping out on the farm. During his summer breaks from high school he worked for Al Kato Masonry. After college Chris felt blessed to support young men and women in their walk with Christ as a Youth Minister at the First Reformed Church of Edgerton, Minnesota. Later he was able to serve as greeter at Ground Effects Landscape and Nursery in Sioux Center.

Chris’ spare time was filled following and cheering on the Chicago Bears, participating in various Bible studies, Prayer Team member with Ya-Tec, and worshiping with the Cornerstone Prison Ministry. He also enjoyed fishing and following his brother’s sporting events. As his health declined, a highlight was Friday night supper with Uncle Willie and his brothers. All who knew Chris, knew Jesus was his Lord and Savior.

Chris is survived by his parents, Ken and Julie Dragstra of Sioux Center, his younger brothers: Justin, Joshua, and Jacob. Also surviving are his paternal uncle, Willie Dragstra of Sioux Center and aunts: Phyllis (Bryce) Fopma of Sioux Falls, Rose (Bernie) Sichmeller of Sioux Falls, and Carol (Lee) Dragstra of Sioux Falls. His maternal uncles: Kevin (Mimi) Sandbulte of Sioux Center and Larry Sandbulte of Pella and aunt, Christy (Darryl) Zeutenhorst of Hawarden. His Lamfers’ relatives include grandparents, Fred and Evelyn Lamfers of Sioux Center and uncles/aunts: Brian (Leah) Lamfers of Sioux Center, Bruce (Carol) Lamfers of Sioux Center, Jane Lamfers of Des Moines, Jeanine (Mark) Mixdorf of Johnston, IA, Bradley (Barb) Lamfers of Richfield, MN, Brent Lamfers of Marshall, MN, and Janet (Myles) De Jager of Johnston, IA.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Connie; his brother, Jeffrey; his maternal grandparents, Milton and Thelma Sandbulte and paternal grandparents, Chris and Rena Dragstra. Also lost to Huntington’s disease were his Sandbulte uncles and aunt: Mike, Vic, Keith, and Cheryl and two cousins, Jeff and Jared.
