Albert Schelling

Albert Schelling, age 81 of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 29th, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Rev. John Witvoet officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Garden Cemetery in Sioux Center, IA

Albert Schelling was born on May 27, 1944, in Sioux Center, IA, the son of John C. and Hendrena (Van Beek) Schelling. At age two, Albert’s family moved to a farm near Middleburg, IA, where he attended country school and later graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1962. After his education, he farmed with his family until May of 1965, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam with the 62nd Transportation Company near Saigon, and was honorably discharged in May of 1967 and returned home to the family farm.

Albert was united in marriage to Sadie Hoogendoorn on June 20, 1967. Together they made their home on the family farm and were blessed with two children, Matthew and Cornelius “Neil”. Albert also earned a four-year degree in Business from Dordt College in Sioux Center.

Albert was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was a crop and dairy farmer most of his life. He enjoyed genealogy and studying history. He especially enjoyed reading and speaking the Dutch language. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Due to health concerns Albert entered Friendly Horizons in Sioux Center in July 2024, where he remained until he passed away at Sioux Center Health, at the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie Schelling of Sioux Center, IA; two sons, Matthew (Cheryl) Schelling of Sioux Center, IA and Cornelius “Neil” (Jaclyn) of Alton, IA; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Cornelius J. (Esther) Schelling of Hull, IA and Harold (Wilhelmina) Schelling of Sioux Center; and one sister, Gertrude den Hoed of Canton, SD; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hendrena Schelling; an infant brother, and a brother-in-law Bill den Hoed.
