Conrad “Con” Van Roekel (79) of Sioux Center, passed from his earthly life into his eternal home with his Lord by his side on October 4th, 2026.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7th at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.

There will be a Prayer Service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8th, and family and friends may gather at the Central Reformed Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, with Military honors by Doornink-Brunsting American Legion Post No. 199 and VFW Post No. 6129.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be presented to: American Legion Doornink-Brunsting Post 199, 282 1st Avenue NE, Sioux Center, Iowa 51250.

Con was born on Oct. 9, 1946, to Henry and Alice (Franken) Van Roekel of Sioux Center.

He went to country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Sioux Center High School in May 1965.

After high school, Con attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago and received a degree in Electronic Engineering.

Con was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Marema on June 7th, 1968. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage and raised two children: Sherri Van Beek (Daron) of Sioux Falls and Scott Van Roekel (Jennifer) of Valley Springs.

Con was drafted into the Army in March 1969. He served at Ft. Polk, Louisiana; Ft. Benning, Georgia; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; and Vietnam, where he was exposed to “Agent Orange” every day. He came home on Dec. 25, 1970.

After the Army, Con attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated with a degree in Accounting and Marketing.

Con and Pat lived for a short time in Chicago. After that he moved back to Sioux Center and worked for JESCO (now known as ECHO). He stayed at JESCO for 35 years.

Con was a member of Central Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and with the youth group for six years. He was on the Board of the Hospital and was a member of the American Legion. He was instrumental in getting the Vet Memorial dedicated.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years; two children, Sherri and Scott (Jennifer); along with Carson (Baylea) Van Beek, Brendon Van Beek, Aubrie Van Beek, and Payten Van Roekel. Also, a handsome great-grandson, Daxton Van Beek. Siblings: Ila (Dave) Harskamp, Claryce (Mark) Schuiteman, Loren (Sharon) Van Roekel, and Mark Van Roekel and many, many cousins.

Preceding him in death are his father and mother, Henry & Alice (Franken) Van Roekel; his in-laws, Henry and Theresa Marema; brother, John Franken; and son-in-law, Daron Van Beek.
