Curtis Van Briesen

Curtis Van Briesen, age 82, of Sioux Center, Iowa, went home on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 7th from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, with the family present at Centerpoint Church in Sioux Center.

Funeral service will follow at 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 7th at Centerpoint Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Stephan Breen officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Memorials may be directed to the Van Briesen family for later designation.

Curtis J. Van Briesen was born January 18, 1943, to Fred and Florence (Kruger) Van Briesen in Edna, Iowa. His family moved to Boyden, Iowa where he attended Boyden-Hull High School through the tenth grade.

On June 23, 1967, Curtis was joined in marriage to Dorothy Punt at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He began working at Sioux Center Creamery in Sioux Center before spending a number of years working for SiouxPreme Packing in Sioux Center.

Curtis was a longtime member of Centerpont Church (formerly First Reformed Church) in Sioux Center. In his free time, Curtis enjoyed fishing, playing cards, fixing fences and finding treasures at rummage sales and auctions. Having a clean car was one of his passions. Always the optimist, Curtis, had an unmistakable smirk and laugh that will not soon be forgotten.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Van Briesen of Sioux Center; his four children and six grandchildren: Todd and Jennifer Van Briesen (Chyann, Corbin), Nancy Van Briesen (Marcus, Madison), Cindy York (Courtney), Arlin Van Briesen (Ashley); 5 great-grandchildren. Curits is also survived by his in-laws: Lyla Van Briesen, Leroy Punt, Judy Yates, Lawrence and Shirley Groen, Sharon Michailidis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Verlyn, Verdell and Darwin; members of the Punt family: his parents-in-law, Henry and Wilhemina Punt; siblings-in-law: Don and Alvina Punt, Ralph and Arlene Punt – Bidwell, Forest Bidwell, Audrey Groen, Lloyd and Gracia Punt, Joan Punt, and Henry and Anna Punt.
