Livesteam of funeral service: Dennis Netten Service

In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to direct memorials to the Doon First Reformed Church or the Alvord Fire Department. Both of these places were near and dear to Dennis’ heart.

Dennis Harlan Netten was born on January 10, 1949, at Orange City, IA the son of Peter and Jeanette (Ravenswaay) Netten. Dennis grew up in Northwest Iowa and attended school in Sioux Center. As a young man he stared working for various manufacturing facilities in the area. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working on the farm on the side. He worked for Clarance Boer for over 40 years and loved the community of Alvord and the relationships he made there. The last several years of his employment he was blessed to work for Clarence & Lance Boer and Rich Burkard and loved his time working for them. Dennis was a volunteer fireman for the Alvord Fire Department for 35 years and served as Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Doon since he was 18 years old. He also served his church as deacon over the years he attended. On November 2014, he married Connie Marben and they made their home in Doon. She brought so much joy and love to his life. Over the years they spent winters in Arizona. Some of his favorite pastimes were coffee at the café, conversations and listening to gospel music. He never passed up the opportunity to make someone laugh and was known for his kindness to all. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and he was particular about a clean pickup. During his years at the nursing home, he loved nothing more than the company that he received, giving his caretakers a bad time, pictures that were shared with him, outings and playing Bingo. His greatest joy and proudest achievement is the family he leaves behind. He also loved his siblings and numerous friends, many that were like family. And most important to Dennis was his love for Jesus.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Doon; his daughter, Krista (Darin) Smith of Mount Vernon, SD; three grandchildren, Treyton, Kaelyn and Tate Smith of Mount Vernon, SD; 5 step children; 8 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren; his siblings, Arnold Netten of Aurela, IA; Duane Netten of Harrisburg, SD; Verlyn (Carla) Netten of Orange City, IA; Rod (Lil) Netten of Rock Valley, IA; Bob (Rhonda) Netten of Boyden, IA; Larry (Missy) Netten of Orange City, IA and Deann (Marlin) Anderson of Hawarden, IA along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Jeanette Netten; granddaughter, Makayla Joy Smith; sister-in-law, Bev Netten and nephew Brady Netten.
