Evert was known as the world class storyteller and with an endless supply of jokes.

Evert De Bondt was born December 17, 1935, the son of Teunis and Hattie De Bondt. He was born in Sioux Center, IA and raised West of Sioux Center and Hudson area on their family farm. He attended country school.

In June of 1955 he was joined in marriage to Harriet Harskamp. They made their home in Sioux Center. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of rural Sioux Center and served on the church council. Evert served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 in the 511th Airborne Division. He worked at Coop Gas and Oil for 47 years driving fuel delivery truck. In retirement, he enjoyed driving for local farmers during harvest season, he also enjoyed working for Mouw Motors transporting vehicles. He was a volunteer fireman for Sioux Center Volunteer Fire Department for several years, where he was known to be the best steak griller.

Left to cherish his memory is his three children and spouses: Sandy and Randy Rogers of Boise, ID, Mike DeBondt and Tina Rodewald of Sioux Center, Paula and Marlin Van Voorst of Hull; his eight grandchildren Kelli (Jason) Elser, Levi Rogers, Justin (Beth) DeBondt, Jon DeBondt, Keaton (Jamie) Van Voorst, Kinzie (Tyson) Brown, Kassidy (Sean) Robinson, and Kade (Morgan) Van Voorst and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob and Cheryl Harskamp, Ken and Darts Harskamp, Dave and Ila Harskamp, Nancy DeBondt, and Alice Harskamp along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Evert is preceded in death by his wife Harriet of 60 years of marriage, grandson Christopher Rogers, brother and sisters, Gerrit DeBondt, Bernard DeBondt, Henry DeBondt, Bill DeBondt, Tom DeBondt, Marie Winterfield, Madeline Koning, and Carolyn De Haan.
