Harriet Vander Zwaag

Harriet Vander Zwaag, age 95 died Friday, January 9, 2026 at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00, Tuesday, January 13th at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

A prayer service will start at 10:30AM, Wednesday, January 14th, at Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen Breen, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Middleburg Free Grace Church. 

Harriet Vander Zwaag was born on November 26, 1930, the daughter of Jake and Anna (Vander Vliet) Jans. She grew up on a farm near Boyden and attended country school.

On March 16, 1948, Harriet was united in marriage to Henry Vander Zwaag in Hull, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Middleburg. They moved to their home in Sioux Center in 1989.

Harriet was a member of Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg. She enjoyed embroidery and spending time with her family. She maintained a very close relationship with her siblings and their families. She was a typical farmer’s wife who was devoted to her husband and Lord.

Those left to cherish her memory are her only child, Connie (Will) Van Voorst of Sioux Center, IA; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Darcie) Van Voorst of Sioux Center, IA, and Wade (Kristen Mendez) Van Voorst of Hull, IA; 5 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Claude Vander Zwaag of Spirit Lake, Iowa, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Anna; husband, Henry; and ten siblings.
