John De Groot, age 81 of rural Sioux Center, Iowa died Friday, December 12, 2025 at his home.
A funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with Pastor Bob Pollema, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday December 19th, at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Midwest Honor Flight.
John Peter De Groot, son of Peter and Alice (Addink) De Groot was born November 25, 1944, in rural Sioux Center. John attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Sioux Center High School.
He was a baptized and professing member of First Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon. He later became a member of Faith CRC. He married Marlys Koopmans at Ireton Christian Reformed Church on May 20, 1966.
He joined the Air National Guard in Sioux City in 1963. In 1968, the 185th was activated and he was sent to Vietnam with the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing at Phu Cat Airbase in Vietnam. John was a crew chief on an F-100 Super Sabre.
John was a farmer at heart and came home and resumed working on the family farm West of Sioux Center. He was a dedicated dairy farmer and received many quality awards.
He was honored to take a Midwest Honor Flight and also received a Quilt of Valor from the American Legion Auxiliary.
John’s life was a testament to his work ethic, his quiet strength, his faith and love of family. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of car racing (especially sprint car racing), and his service to our country.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marlys; son, Paul (Sharon) De Groot of Manchester, MO; daughters, Jodi (Tom) Holman of Auburn, MA; Judy (Duane) Hulstein of Orange City, IA; and son, John M (Fonda) of Sioux Center, IA; grandchildren: Brianna, Joshua, Luke De Groot; David John, Jessica, Nicholas, Matthew Holman; Christopher, Jacquelyn, Kaitlyn Hulstein; Raymond, Savannah De Groot; sister, Agnes (Noop) De Groot of Sioux Center; in-laws, Larry and Rosie Koopmans of Sioux Center, IA, Sharon Bloemendaal of Rochester, NY, Carla and Dennis Nibbelink of Sioux Center, David and Eunice Koopmans of Maurice; along with many extended family.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl John; his parents, Peter and Alice; brother, Allan De Groot; parents-in-law, Charles and Viola Koopmans; brothers-in-law, Clare Koopmans; and Jack Bloemendaal.
