Kathryn Van Zee age 88, of Sioux Center, Iowa went to her Heavenly Home on December 28th, 2023. She passed due to Covid and Pneumonia complications at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa.
A visitation will be held from 5PM – 7PM, Monday, January 1 at Memorial Funeral Home.
Kathy was the daughter of Meas and Grace (Meerbeek) Van Beek. Born in Doon, Iowa on the 21st of June in 1935, she was the 5th of 8 children and grew up on a farm in Northwest Iowa.
Kathy married Paul Kaskie in Rock Valley, IA in 1955. They had 7 children. In 1984, she married Lawrence Van Zee, and they resided in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Kathy had 3 main passions in her life: God, family, and nurturing others. She held many jobs, but she always found time for others. She welcomed and loved 18 foster children, took part in multiple mission trips, and volunteered as a foster grandparent within the Sioux Center Elementary School system. Other favorite activities included growing her rose bushes, attending bible study, and preparing special meals for her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ronda (John) Leusink of Orange City, IA; Vickie (Gerry) Veenis of Sioux Falls, SD; Steve Kaskie of Canton, SD; Terry (Karen) Kaskie of Hudson, SD; Brian Kooima of Rock Valley, IA; Randy (Linda) Kaskie of Rock Valley, IA; Kelly (Carl) Schelling of Worthing, SD; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; her brother John (Sandy) Van Beek of Volin, SD; her sister Mary Zahrt of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters-in-law, Rochelle Van Beek and Ann Van Beek of Akron, IA; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Meas and Grace Van Beek; her husband, Lawrence Van Zee; her daughter Kristi Kooima; her great granddaughter Rachel Leusink; siblings Geraldine (John) Zwak, Everdean (Herb) Zwak, Elmer Van Beek, Clarence Van Beek, Peter Van Beek; brother-in-law Ken Zahrt; sister-in-law Phyllis Van Beek; and a host of dear friends and friends to the family.
