Our Dad - Larry Dean Koopmans
How do you put into words how awesome our dad was? It is going to be difficult, but here goes...
Our dad was born on a small farm in Iowa to wonderful parents (Viola and Charles) who brought him and his siblings (Sharon, Marlys, Clare, David and Carla) to be the most kind, gentlest people you would ever meet in this world.
Dad came out to California where he met his beautiful bride (our mom Rosie) at an 'In and Out' hamburger stand in 1961, and they have been together ever since - 65 years this December! In today's world a marriage of 65 years is pretty unheard of, however, mom and dad lived out their vows they promised each other on their wedding day on December 16, 1961 We as their children have been so blessed by the example of their marriage.
Mom and dad created a beautiful family by having four children. Baby boy was first. He was a beautiful boy that looked like dad but went to heaven within hours. Kelly came next, then Vicki and finally another beautiful boy, Scott. Dad worked so hard while we grew up to make a wonderful living for his family and provide everything we needed. He started as a plumber, then became a property developer, retired and finally settled into his best and most favored occupation, being a grandpa and great grandpa.
Dad was always there to provide advice and guidance, a shoulder to cry on, or just his calming spirit to redirect us when we went astray.
Dad provided us with a blessed childhood and continued to guide us, as adults. However, the most important life lesson dad taught us was knowing that God was always there for us, would save us if we trusted in His Son Jesus and that one day our entire family would be together in heaven.
On September 15, 2026, dad went to his mansion in heaven and finally heard the words he longed for “well done, good and faithful servant." Dad is now visiting with his mom and dad, his brother Clare and brothers-in-law (Jack and John) and of course holding his beautiful baby boy. Dad, we are sure, is also having a glass of wine with Jesus, his lunch bunch friends and one of his best friends and partner Larry Bartholomy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosie; children, Kelly (Wayne) Bomgaars of Orange City, IA, Vicki (Jeff) Albalos of Norco, CA, Scott (Josie) Koopmans of Newton, IA; grandchildren, Brandon (Jamie) Bomgaars, Bria (Greg) Den Hartog, Brett (Whitney Kniffen) Bomgaars, Brenna (Drew) Haack, Breckin (Jordyn) Bomgaars, Aiden Koopmans, Christian Albalos, and Sara Albalos; great grandchildren, Hudson and Karsyn Den Hartog, and Cash and Kipp Haack; siblings, Sharon Bloemendaal, Marlys DeGroot, Carla (Denny) Nibbelink, and Dave (Eunice) Koopmans; along with many extended family and friends.
