Muriel Joyce Visser was born November 23, 1925, to Syne and Molena (Scholten) Hogan in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was the second of five children and grew up on two different farms near Sioux Center. She attended a one-room country school in elementary school.
After she and her sister Alma worked in the war effort for a year, she returned home and was engaged to Peter Visser. They were married on November 18, 1946, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They were blessed with five children: Stanton, Ruth, Greg, Dean and Melissa. Eventually they had a total of 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. They farmed in the Sioux Center area until 1967, when they moved into town in Sioux Center. Peter worked for Co-op delivering propane and Muriel worked for Central Veterinary Clinic until 1996. For years, they traveled to Arizona where two of their children live, and Muriel loved road-tripping throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arkansas and other destinations. Since they were first married and for the next 65+ years they made fishing trips with family to Minnesota in the summers.
Muriel and Peter were long-time members of First Christian Reformed Church, where Muriel was involved with Gleaners for many years. While at Crown Pointe, she loved to watch the morning and evening services on her trusty iPad. They were long-time, enthusiastic supporters of Sioux Center Christian School, Western Christian High School and Dordt University, and regularly attended sporting events at Western and Dordt. At Crown Pointe, she cheered on the volleyball and basketball players as she watched on her iPad.
