Rodney De Kruyf age 83 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Friday, December 17, 2021 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Reverend Jesse Henkle, officiating. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 AM at the church with burial to follow the prayer service at the Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.
The memorial service will be available via a livestream link at Live Stream - Central Reformed Church
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 22nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with family present at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
The family requests memorials directed to: Tunnels to Towers, Hearts of Hope, or Rock Valley Christian School.
Rodney Wayne De Kruyf was born on June 10, 1938, to Henry and Nellie (Vande Vegte) in Orange City, Iowa. He grew up in Artesia, California, attended Bellflower Christian School, graduated in 1956 from Valley Christian High School. After High School Rod joined the United States Army on August 14, 1956, until being honorably discharged on August 13, 1958.
Rod was united in marriage on September 5, 1958, to Carol Weersing in Sun Valley, California. They made their home together in Long Beach, California where Rod worked at Proctor and Gamble for 25 years. They moved to Norco, California before moving to Sioux Center, Iowa. Rod worked at the Sioux Center Hospital before retiring in 2003.
Rod was a member of the Central Reformed Church and served as an elder in the past. He was active in AA and received his 35 year pin this year. He enjoyed reading, fishing, roller pigeons, and watching the Rams football team. He was very loyal and had a passion for people.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife of 63 years, Carol; son, Randy (Jan) De Kruyf of Sioux Center, IA; daughter, Cathi (Bob) Van Zanten of Rock Valley, IA; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Sam (Dot) De Kruyf of Palm Desert, CA; along with many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nellie; son, Tommy; and grandson, Dalton Van Zanten.
