Sharon Lee (DenHerder) Vreugdenhil daughter of Gordon & Ella (Vreeman) Den Herder was born September 16, 1939, in their family farmhouse. She attended country grade-school right across the road and went to Sioux Center High School where she graduated in 1956.
After high school, Sharon worked for SCS (Soil Conservation Services) for 4 years. In 1984, she began working for Van Beek Scientific where she worked part-time for 24 years.
Sharon married John Vreugdenhil March 26, 1958. They were married for 61 years and blessed with four children Doug, Leanne, Randy and Mike.
Sharon was a member of the Bethel CRC where she served on various committees and was part of the Mary’s Fellowship group for over 65 years.
Each year, for over 20 years, John and Sharon would go to Mississippi for the Justice for All.
In 1963 John and Sharon started Vreugdenhil Construction. She continued to do the bookwork until they moved into Crown Pointe Estates in 2017. A highlight for the construction crew was to go to their house on Saturday morning for “slunch” where she would make the “best” egg sandwiches.
Sharon found great joy in her role as Grandma. From weekly Grandma Days every summer to slumber parties at the lake and annual birthday suppers with each grandchild, and she was intentional on making memories with each of them.
Sharon is survived by her children, (all of Sioux Center, Iowa); son: Doug & Valerie (Obbink) Vreugdenhil; daughter: Leanne & Dave Van Holland; sons: Randy & Brenda (Noteboom) Vreugdenhil; Mike & Karen (Wieringa) Vreugdenhil. 13 grandchildren;
22 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Vreugdenhil and grandson Jason Van Holland.
