Wayne Glen Meerdink, age 84, of Sioux Center, IA passed away on Friday May 16, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Middleburg Free Grace Reformed Church, 3630 370th Street, Orange City, Iowa with Rev. Mark Schwarz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be sent to Setting Anchors, 3054 360th Street, Sioux Center, IA 51250

Wayne was born on May 10,1941 in Sioux Center, Iowa. He married Phyllis Koerselman on October 3, 1960. Wayne & Phyllis retired from the farm and moved to Sioux Center, Iowa in 2002.

Wayne spent his life working the land and tinkering in the shop with his ingenuity. He loved to drive anything from cars to 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, motorcycles and trucks. His favorite pastime was going for a ride to check out the area crops and farmland. His work was not just a career, but a calling, one that he passed down to his children.

Wayne is survived by his five children: Cheryl Nieuwkoop (Terry) from Bakersfield, California, LouAnn Zevenbergen (Glen) from Sioux Falls, S.D., Teresa Punt (Leon) from Marana, AZ, Nancy Bonnema (Mark) from Sioux Center, IA and Scott Meerdink (Gina) from Orange City, IA and his 50 grandchildren & great grandchildren combined. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in each of their accomplishments.

Wayne is also survived by his sister, Elaine Feldhacker (Ed) and brothers-in-law Greg Koerselman (Donna); Cork Koerselman (Sherri) and Vivian Koolstra (John).

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis (Koerselman) Meerdink, grandson, Matthew Zevenbergen and granddaughter, Karli Punt. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Meerdink and Harriet (Borgman) Meerdink and his in-laws, Cornie & Elizabeth (Landhuis) Koerselman, brothers-in-law Vincent Koerselman, John Koerselman and Kathy Koerselman.

Wayne leaves behind not just a thriving farm but a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love. Many will remember Wayne as having a great sense of humor, he was a master storyteller. He was also a man of deep roots and steady faith, a provider, a protector, and above all, a man of heart. His impact lives on through the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared and the memories that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
